Dear Forest Hill Families,

Forest Hill Elementary is pleased to announce that we will be participating in a One Book One School event throughout the month of September. This initiative is designed to create a shared reading experience within a school community. Activities at school will coordinate, promote, and enrich the shared reading experience.

One Book One School has been made possible through Title I Parent Involvement Funds and the hard work of the teachers and staff at Forest Hill Elementary. With these funds, we are happy to say that each 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student will receive a copy of the selected One Book One School title, My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett. If your child is in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade, they will begin engaging in classroom read-aloud with their teacher around the same time. Please make sure your ask your child about the book and have them share their thoughts and ideas about the text and classroom activities!

Modeling the habit of regularly reading together as a family, allows you to create a strong foundation for literacy in your child’s life. Reading a book, talking about a book you are reading or writing about a book together brings the added joy of building and expanding a sense of community among students, parents, teachers and staff.  With the One Book One School event, we aim to build a community of readers at Forest Hill Elementary.

We look forward to this time celebrating literacy and growing our HUSKY READERS!
